Day 2 - 2 Cities, 1 day

A 13 hour flight is a very long flight. That is what I concluded during the flight from DC to Addis. I also can't figure out where my Saturday went lol. I don't now how it is Sunday right now. I swear it's still Saturday. Oh well. I'll eventually adjust to this time. :) Anyway, I watched so many movies during the flight! Each seat had it's own touch screen tv with a bunch of movies to choose from. I watched The Longest Ride - Nicholas Sparks, you did it again. I was bawling at 29,000ft. I also watched The Avengers: Age of Ultron during dinner (1:30pm your time) and Miss Congeniality during breakfast (10:30pm your time). "Please describe your perfect date. I'd have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket." I still laugh out loud at the line every time. My seat on this flight was wonderful. The plane was a Boeing with 3 seats in each of the 3 rows across. I had the window seat, and then an elderly gentleman had the aisle seat. No one sat in the middle seat, so I got to stretch out a bit to get some sleep. It was glorious! :) It was also really cool to see Addis Ababa first from the air. Everything is so green! I still can't believe that I am in Africa at this very moment.

Instead of spending 8 hours in the airport waiting for our flight from Addis to Gondar, we checked into the nearby Jupiter Hotel for a half day rate. Best. Decision. Ever. Nicole and I then headed to Gondar. One of the University of Gondar (UoG) collaborators met us at the airport and took us to the hotel. I am now all settled at the Kino. :) Then, some of the OSU vet students and other medical and UoG students took me to dinner at this cool local place with Ethiopian music and awesome food. Overall, I'd say it was a great first day in Ethiopia! The "real" work begins tomorrow. :) I didn't take many pictures today, but will hopefully post some tomorrow. Now to try and catch up on some sleep.

Much love,
Joslyn :)

P.S. The Daily Bible Verse for today was "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you...It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." Deuteronomy 31: 6,8

That was a pretty perfect verse for my first evening in Gondar with a dinner excursion outside of the hotel. :)
